Dear Seniors,
By now, you have received virtually all of your decisions from the colleges. In most cases the decisions were a mix of accepts, denies, and waitlists. The acceptances and denies are straightforward, but a waitlist can be much more complicated. The good news is that you still may have an opportunity to be admitted, but it's important to start by focusing on the colleges where you were admitted. You must choose one of the schools to which you have been admitted and send an enrollment deposit by May 1st.

While it is okay to stay on more than one waitlist, it is absolutely not okay, and unethical, to submit an enrollment deposit to more than one school. (¿©·¯ Çб³¿¡ µî·Ï µðÆÄÁþÀ» º¸³»´Â °ÍÀº ºñÀ±¸®ÀûÀÌ´Ù. ¿þÀÌÆ® ¸®½ºÆ® ¿©·¯±ºµ¥¿¡ ³²¾Æ ÀÖ´Â °ÍÀº OK)
In most cases we suspect that you are happy with the college choices that you do indeed have, but in some cases there may be schools where you have been waitlisted which remain very important to you and are places that you would definitely choose ahead of the choices that you currently have. If that is the case, here are some general thoughts and strategies regarding the waitlist and what we suggest that you do if you wish to ¡°push¡± one or more of their potential options.

* What is a waitlist?
It is a list of students who meet the admission requirements, but will only be offered a place in the class if space becomes available.

*When will we know if a space becomes available?
(¾ðÁ¦ ÀÚ¸®°¡ ³ª´ÂÁö ¾Ë¼ö ÀÖ³ª?)
As we reach the end of April, colleges and universities start getting a sense of whether or not they may need to go to their waitlist. In some cases, schools may even go to their waitlist before the 1st of May, but most schools make waitlist decisions during the first two weeks of May. In rare instances some students may also come off waitlists in June, July, or August.

(¿þÀÌÆÿ¡ °É¸° Çб³ ¸ðµÎ¿¡ µéÀÌ´ë¾ßÇϳª? ¾Æ´Ô ÇÑ ±ºµ¥¿¡¸¸ ÁýÁßÇØ¾ß Çϳª?)
Interest plays an enormous role at most schools ,so if you honestly can't say that you would attend that school if you're offered admission, it does not make sense to pursue that waitlist. But, since there is no guarantee that any one waitlist will move, it¡¯s best to keep your potential options open at schools where you would clearly enroll if offered the chance.

* Do Colleges Rank their waitlists?
(´ë±âÀÚ ¸í´Ü¿¡ ¼øÀ§°¡ ÀÖ³ª?)
Most Colleges do not rank their waitlists; instead, they will admit students based on the college's needs and the student's interest.

* What should I do if I want to pursue a waitlist?
(¿þÀÌÆÿ¡ ÀÖÀ¸¸é ¾î¶»°Ô ÇØ¾ß Çϳª?)
The first thing you need to do is immediately return the response card, or if they don't have a card, send an email to the school. You should follow this up with a detailed letter explaining why this is your first choice, how it's a perfect match, and emphasize that you will definitely enroll if offered a space. You should also update them with any new information from this semester - strong grades, awards, etc.

* What do Colleges look for when selecting students from their waitlists?
(´ë±âÀÚ ¸í´Ü ÇлýÀÇ ¹«¾ùÀ» º¸°í »Ì³ª?)
It really depends on the institution's needs. Some schools may need more boys or girls. Some may need business majors or engineers. Again, the colleges will not know their needs until the end of April. You should also note that in most cases, financial aid is limited at best, so the ability to pay may be a factor in determining whether or not you to come off a waitlist.

* Do additional letters of recommendation help? (Ãß°¡ÀÇ Ãßõ¼°¡ µµ¿òÀÌ µÇ³ª?)
Yes, you can ask another teacher or an alumnus to write a letter for you. In some cases you may have truly ¡°connected¡± with a teacher who didn¡¯t know you that well early in the fall, but he or she might be able to write a very strong letter of support for you now. You should meet with your college counselor to discuss whom to ask.

* Should I visit campus and interview?
(Çб³¸¦ ¹æ¹®Çϰųª ÀÎÅͺ並 ÇÒ ÇÊ¿ä´Â?)
It depends on the school. Some schools welcome visits and will meet with you, others prefer that you don't. Being pro-active by calling an admissions officer at your waitlist schools to ask for their advice about what to do is also a very good thing to consider. We can help you get the appropriate contact information.

Finally, if you haven¡¯t seen your college counselor yet to discuss your waitlist options and strategy, please do so quickly. Our goal is to help and support you in any that way we can. The more we keep in touch, the easier it will be for us to work on your behalf.
